Resolving ‘the iPod cannot be synced. The required file is locked’ error
Posted by admin on May 7th, 2010iPod revolution has hit the masses like anything. From subway trains to aircraft cabins to college lounges, this one device has made its presence felt everywhere. The omnipresent device is worth the attention and acceptance. It is capable of satiating all your entertainment needs. Despite being a wonderful product, an iPod has its own limitations.
It is prone to throwing bizarre errors while you try and sync it with iTunes. If anything goes haywire with the iPod, you are left with no option but to restore it which wards off any issue conveniently. However, in order to compensate the data loss, you must have an updated backup. In case there is no backup available, you can easily bank upon an iPod recovery software and restore your lost data within a few minutes time.
As a practical case, you may come across the following nagging error whenever you try and sync your Apple iPod using iTunes:
“The iPod cannot be synced. The required file is locked.”
The moment you spot the above error, you may not be able to access your iPod data i.e. songs, videos, pod casts, audio books etc.
Cause
The iTunes is unable to read/write to the database file inside your iPod. The possible reasons for the above error could be:
- Database corruption due to syncing error or physical media corruption
- Library being locked out for writing due to read-only attribute
Resolution :
It’s been observed that in most cases the above error can be resolved by following the steps given below:
- Open My Computer and navigate to your iPod disk, right-click the iPod_Control folder and remove the read-only attribute if on
- Open My Computer, right-click your iPod disk and click Properties
- Go to Tools and select Check Now tab from ‘Error-checking section’
- Check ‘Automatically fix file system error’ and click Start
- After the scan is completed, eject your iPod and reconnect
- If you still receive the error, restore the iPod from iTunes
Since restoring erases all the data from iPod, make sure to restore all your content from an updated backup. If there is no backup available, don’t lose heart, an iPod recovery software can rescue you. An iPod recovery utility restores the play list in the same order after recovery from formatted or crashed iPod media.
