Avoid data loss by properly ejecting iPod
Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010Romy Spears is quite upset. She has lost valuable iPod content to disk corruption after she improperly ejected the iPod from computer. Well, the same can happen to any iPod user who doesn’t follow the proper way to eject and disconnect an iPod. Improper ejection is one of the main reasons why you end up crashing your iPod disk.
To compensate the data loss, you have to resort to using ‘restoring’ option. Though, restoration can be done without any second thoughts, you must have a backup to restore the lost data. However, in absence of a valid backup, you can still recover lost iPod data provided you use a trusted iPod recovery utility.
‘Do not disconnect’ message, take it seriously
The above message tells you that an iPod has established a contact with the computer. You simply cannot remove an iPod if you observe the same message or you would end up corrupting your iPod’s disk.
Though you may find the message annoying, but in fact it saves you from grave data loss scenarios by telling you when it is safe to unplug your device. And, if you ignore the message, it is very much likely that your iPod will go corrupt and you will be required to perform iPod recovery.
What to do if ‘do not disconnect’ message doesn’t vanish
Sometimes, an iPod gets stuck and displays ‘do not disconnect’ error even after you have ejected it properly. Moreover, being in this state, your iPod will not respond even if you click any buttons. Don’t worry, it is a common phenomenon and has a fairly easy solution.
Before you disconnect your iPod from a computer, it is very important to eject it first from iTunes. You can observe the following steps to do so:
- Open iTunes
- Eject the iPod using iTunes: Your iPod will appear in the source panel and at the right side of your iPod, you will see an arrow. Just click on that and eject your iPod.
Alternatively, you can also eject your iPod from ‘Eject’ iPod button which appears in the lower right corner of iTunes windows when you select your iPod in the Source list. - If your iPod still showing the same error, then you can also try it ejecting from the Operating System level
For Windows :
- Go to ‘My Computer’, double-click it
- Right click your iPod icon
- Choose ‘Eject’ from the menu
Alternate ways to eject iPod
- Listen or touch the iPod to see whether its hard drive is spinning or not. If not, then disconnect it from your computer
- If the hard drive is spinning, quit iTunes and reopen it. Eject your iPod from the source list
